Unleash the adventures of a golden retriever puppy

I was told once that you could not exercise at home and have a dog. When I heard that, I thought it was just an excuse to not exercise.

Yesterday, I was feeling quite stiff, so I put on one of my old P90X yoga videos. Sam was watching as I got down into a few poses. He then decided to lay as close to me as possible. I felt like that was his idea of yoga. He could have made me fall for sure, but he didn’t.

I can see how having a dog could hinder your at home workout, but I was able to do the whole video. After a little while, Sam lost interest in the yoga and just watched from afar.

I would say that for the most part, I actually exercise more now that I have Sam. I try to get him at least one walk every time I’m off work. That entails walking up a very large hill that is our driveway.

I am also outside at night walking up the back of our hill. I would normally just be sitting on the couch watching TV mostly. Now I am outside at least a couple times every night.

Soulful Escapes

I was reading an article from the American Kennel Club that stated when you take your puppy out at night to make sure you give feedback. For instance, when he goes pee, they recommend saying, “Good pee.” Then Sam should learn the word better and then be able to pee on command. That would definitely be nice.

The AKC article also mentioned that you should not rush your puppy inside at night right after he pees. He then associates doing what you want, with the end of his fun outdoors. I have noticed Sam doing that sometimes. We go outside and then I watch him chew on a stick. When I start to head back inside, that is when he does his business. Sam just doesn’t want to give up on his outdoor fun. Any thoughts anyone?
