Unleash the adventures of a golden retriever puppy

We decided to have a separate family birthday party for Sammy, so that more people could come over the weekend. He seemed to enjoy his first party, so why not have two, right?

On his birthday, he saw a video of his favorite family member singing happy birthday to him, and he got so excited. It was the best. I wish I had a video of his reaction to share. It was as if he knew exactly what she was singing about and that he knew it was his big day.

Our plan for birthday party number two is to serve steaks, have at least one dog guest, and to have more toys of course. I heard that he already made claim to one of his new toys though. It is hard to wrap his toys because Sam sees them right away and knows they are for him. I don’t think he understands the concept of delayed satisfaction at all.

There has been some criticism of the dog cake that I ordered for him. We saved it for the family party. It came with a candle and is made for dogs, but the appearance in the wrapper could be better. We will see what Sam thinks. He can be a little particular, sometimes.

I also put up a few birthday decorations. He definitely seems to understand that something special happened this week.

Soulful Escapes

I have done some reading online that suggests the hardest time for owning a puppy is from 8 to 18 months. That is the time when most dogs are brought to the shelters. I will be curious to see how he will be the next few months now that he is a year old. So far, I can’t complain though. He is a good boy.
