Last night Sammy was up all night long, so today the discussion was that perhaps he is afraid of the dark. I have never heard of such a thing. I researched if he had bad eyesight and how well dogs see at night. He does not have bad vision or he would be running into things, and he would be unable to jump up on the sofa or climb stairs. He does that fine. I also read that dogs see better than humans do at night, which makes sense since they are related to wolves.
I suspect that he is napping too much during the day and then has too much energy in the middle of the night. Perhaps, I just have to find some time to give him more walks. But, just in case there is anything to him actually being afraid of the dark, I bought him a light up necklace that looks like a glow stick. I am curious to see how he reacts to that tonight. I also purchased some more chew sticks just in case he is teething and his sore teeth are keeping him up. I don’t think that is it though.
I checked on the dog camera for last night, the mini furbo that I have in the hall. It captured him about every hour from 4 am on looking out into the hall like he hears noises. Maybe it is not that he can’t see, but that he hears too well.Â
Tonight we are having a big birthday dinner for my birthday. I suspect that he will be tired out tonight after running around with all of the guests whom I am sure he thinks are coming to see him. Two kids are coming also, so I don’t think a walk will be needed.Â
My plan for tonight is also to send his dad to bed before me. We will see if he sleeps better knowing that dad won’t be getting up every hour with him. He knows that mom is the stricter of the two of his parents. We will see how that works out.Â
Soulful Escapes
I am also going to try refilling his Thunder Ease diffuser. It emits a calming pheromones that dogs are supposed to recognize. They mimic pheromones that would normally come from the dog’s biological mom. Perhaps he is not afraid of the dark, but is just a little anxious.
Hopefully, all goes well with my sweet boy sleeping tonight, especially since mom may be in charge. Crossing my fingers since I do like my sleep.
