I looked at a facebook post today that made me smile because the dog owner complained that he feels like his dog is the boss of him. He took his dog out 17 times the night before just because he wanted to go out. It made me smile because Sam loves to go out, and does the same thing. I may not have made it to 17 times, but it is always a few times at least every night.
I am lucky because Sam’s dad shares in this going out at night chore. We both look at one another to see who is going to get up first. His dad usually does.Â
Sam enjoys going out in the yard at night in the freezing cold just to sit in planters and chew on sticks. He also enjoys jumping up on the outdoor furniture with a branch that he just pulled off one of the plants. He also wants us to go out with him. If we don’t follow, he will usually just stand by the sliding glass door staring at us until someone gets up.
I know that it is nice that Sam enjoys our company and wants to spend time outdoors with us, but this pastime is much more enjoyable in the summer when it is not so cold and dark.
I also suspect that he does feel more safe with his humans acting as guards for him in case an animal ever did walk into the yard. I am hoping that as he gets older, he will grow out of needing an escort outside in the dark.Â
Soulful Escapes
Lately, I have been trying to get Sam’s dad to let him got outside more alone. I think that we are may be too ready to get up every time he gives us that look. Sam does feel like he is the boss, and has us wired so to say.Â
Any suggestions on this would be appreciated. The colder it gets, the more I would like to stay inside. Plus, our living room is looking more and more like a forrest with a collection of sticks on the floor every morning.
