For my birthday this year, we decided to take a two day trip to the Sycamore Mineral Springs. We have been there in the past, but never with a pet. The hotel’s site listed them as dog friendly. Very dog friendly, in fact, since they showed a room service menu for dogs!
Sammy used to be afraid of the car. So much so, that he would shake and even try his hardest to climb into our laps while driving. I am so glad that he grew out of that. I was a little unsure how he would do on a longer trip though. I tried to be as prepared as possible, since I do like to prepare. I bought travel bowls, which turned out to be too small. I also bought a travel dog food bag, and his travel water bottle, which also turned out to be too small. The travel dog food bag that worked was from Amazon, the ANVS silicone pet food storage bag.
Sammy did pretty well on the trip, which lasted about 2 hours in the car. He was a little restless, getting out of his dog bed periodically, and trying to walk around in the back of the SUV. He was not shaking or whining at all though.Â
The hotel really was dog friendly. They had a nice trail right outside of the room to take him for walks. He still needs work on not pulling on his leash though. In this new place, he was pulling much harder than in places he is already used to.
We also decided to take Sammy to his first restaurant on this trip. I was nervous that he might try to wander around or squirm away the entire time. We went to a cafe with a dog friendly outdoor patio. They even had a dog menu as well. Sammy did great. He laid down underneath the table and just stayed there. He was such a good boy. I was so proud.Â
Soulful Escapes
Sammy’s first night in the hotel was a bit touch and go at first. We had a power outage which scared him, and then really scared him when the power came back on. I heard him jump up pretty high when all the lights and tv came blaring back on. He also kept his dad up a bit wanting to not be alone.
The second night at the hotel, he was much better though. He let his dad sleep more, and I felt like we could bring him again on short road trips. I will just need to train him more to come, and also to not pull on the leash.
