Unleash the adventures of a golden retriever puppy

Sammy recently had another training session. Sammy is a good boy, but he still does not come when he is called all the time, he jumps on guests, and pulls on his leash if we take him out to new places.

The trainer recommended that we take him out to a food court area that has alot of cafes with patios. We took him there for lunch. As soon as he got out of the car, he pulled on his leash and ignored the heel command. Once we got to the patio and he laid down, then he was very good.

His trainer said that I need to keep practicing by taking him to the food court so that I can take him to new places without him pulling on his leash. Won’t this just mean I can take him to the food court without all the pullling?

I hope that Sam does get the heel command down. I would like to take him out everywhere if I could, and he didn’t pull everywhere.

Sam is also still shy around other dogs. We gave him a supervised play date with a couple dogs while the trainer watched. Sam did better with that. He liked the dogs, and he didn’t just lay down on his back. He even shared his water with these dogs.

Soulful Escapes

I still get nervous when we take Sam on a walk and he approaches other dogs who are off leash. Sam is a nice dog, but I worry he could have a bad experience or worse get bit by a dog before I could stop it.

Anyone have any advice for off leash encounters? I would love to hear it.
